Recently, the United Nations’ Vietnam Coordinator congratulated Vietnam on the contributions to the advancement of LGBT rights movement in the South East Asian countries in recent years.
He Pratibha Mehta said “The progress is very important to help people better understand, reduce social prejudice and discrimination on sexual orientation and gender identity. Progress was also noted by the development of legislation to ensure the rights of the LGBT community. ”
Last year, the first Gay Pride parade in Vietnam was launched, and this year already the Vietnamese LGBT rights organization held coordinated events in 4 major cities – Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho for IDAHO.
Viet Pride 2013 will be held from 2 to 4 August in Hanoi, with film showings, workshops, report of Say Yes to Employment Equality Campaign, Strive with Pride scholarships and more. The “Strive with Pride” bicycle rally repeats due to high popularity in the first-ever Pride Parade in 2012.
